Basix Reports

BASIX REPORTS

Sustainable residential design begins with a considered assessment.

Empire Thermal Group provides accurate BASIX assessments and practical sustainability guidance for residential developments throughout New South Wales.

We work with architects, building designers, builders, developers and homeowners to create clear, coordinated pathways towards approval.

What is a BASIX Report?

BASIX, the Building Sustainability Index, is the NSW sustainability assessment framework for residential development. It measures the proposed development’s water efficiency, energy use and thermal performance.

BASIX generally applies to all new residential developments in NSW, renovations valued above $50,000, and swimming pools or spas with a capacity of 40,000 litres or more.

Our team reviews the proposed design, completes the required assessment and prepares the commitments needed to support your development application or complying development certificate.

COORDINATED SUSTAINABILITY

More than an approval requirement.

A successful BASIX assessment is not simply about entering information into an online tool. The commitments made through the assessment must be practical, achievable and accurately coordinated with the architectural plans.

Our role is to identify potential concerns early, recommend suitable improvements and ensure the final commitments align with the proposed design.

What We Assess:

Water Efficiency

Water-efficient fixtures, rainwater collection, landscaping, irrigation and other water-use commitments.

Thermal Performance

The building fabric, insulation, glazing, orientation and shading that influence internal comfort.

Energy Use

The expected energy demand associated with lighting, appliances, building services and renewable-energy systems.

Heating and Cooling

The type, efficiency and configuration of the proposed heating and cooling systems.

Hot Water Systems

The proposed hot water system, energy source, efficiency and expected contribution to household energy use.

Construction Materials

The nominated building materials and information required for embodied-emissions reporting.
